The Style Academy was excited to host our largest Courageous You Summer Camp to date mid July. 30 campers between the ages of 8 and 15 participated in a five day camp geared towards building self confidence and empowering todays youth.

TSA expanded their community partners to bring together a powerful team of 13 educators from local businesses who contributed to the overall theme of beauty from the inside out. Each educator developed a module and brought their unique approach to what is considered beautiful.

Confidence, self acceptance, self love and care.

Participants explored who they are and who they want to become. This camp is designed to help youth learn to communicate, build deeper connections and lasting friendships!  Armed with tips and tricks for hair, nails, skin, makeup, modelling/etiquette, mental health and fitness The Style Academy created an environment where youth can explore their creativity in a supportive environment.

Day One

The first day of camp participants worked with three talented educators that got them moving, creative and goofy. The Style Academy Artificial Nail Technician educator, Leanne Brown, worked with the girls to create their very own nail art. With polish and glitter they created funky designs on artificial nails to create inspiration for their own manicure designs.

Over the lunch break everyone joined together for a yoga session led by Brenna of Pure Living Yoga using movement and meditation to learn how to alter their state of mind. A perfect way to learn how to relax and let go of stress and anxiety when needed.

Social Bird Co. founder MaKayla joined each group and talked about social media spreading positivity! With a photobooth session participants got to let loose and have fun while being their authentic selves, props and all.

Day Two

Campers worked with Adria Austin,  TSA Esthetics Educator on skincare techniques and proper cleansing procedures appropriate to their age. Ensuring they know what to do what not to do to keep their skin clear and well taken care.

Brenna joined participants again for another lunch yoga session outside.

Jim from Understand Us spent part of the day with each group exploring mental health. Through conversation and guided meditation they were able to open up about topics that can be very difficult for youth. Spreading positivity is what is it all about!

Day Three

Local artist Justine Marie, started her session by brainstorming positive affirmations. Each participant created a painting with positive sayings or nature scenes. Something that they could look at and it would bring them happiness!

Addison, Exercise Therapist at Canterbury Park’s very own Stapleford Health & Rehab spent the lunch hour getting everyone moving. With a relay race everyones feel good endorphins and hearts were pumping!

Hayley, TSA Alumni and Hairstylist at Shear Escape Salon and Spa talked with campers about beauty trends. They explored what their favourite trends are currently and what they predict will happen in the future! Hayley brought her fun personality to her presentation with a game show portion.

Day Four

The Style Academy was excited to welcome back Lisa Marie of Edge Agency for another year. One of campers favourite experiences Lisa Marie teaches poise, how to walk like a model in heels and proper ways to greet and introduce yourself in professional environments. Campers also worked on creating skits they acted out.

Day four’s lunch time body break was led by local dancer Eddy of Vibes YQR. Eddy loves all styles of dance and explores dance as self expression. From stretching to busting out some moves the groups had a great time working with Eddy! Check out his workshops on Instagram @VibesYQR

A more personal session led by Candyce of My Life Planner and TSA along with Krista Lee of DBL Designs allowed participants to dig deep and explore tools of healthy rituals and planning for extraordinary weeks! An inviting environment full of conversation, expressing ourselves through journaling and the power of getting uncomfortable. Wrapping up with incredible expression through personalized notes of gratitude.

Day Five

The final day was a special one complete with a pizza party and a photoshoot!

Local photographer Peter Scoular joined Courageous You for the first time. Participants got to step in front of the camera to learn how to feel comfortable and pose for pictures with his infectious and encouraging energy!  Our Makeup educator Stephanie worked with campers on age appropriate makeup tips and tricks as well as some creative looks. They spent time identifying their favourite feature and highlighting it for their photos that will contribute to a special keepsake book.

Special shout out to our TSA Professional Nicole Dumelie and TSA Students who helped make our campers feel beautiful with extra special hair & Makeup.

Eddy of Vibes joined the campers for their final day to keep the energy of the final day going!

Special Thanks to The Rolling Pin who provided lunch options throughout the week before our finale pizza party day.
